postdoc position

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the group!

The successful applicant will work on the EPSRC-funded TERASWITCH project (Towards Low Dissipation THz-Induced Switching of Magnetic Materials) and will develop theoretical models of key magnetic materials using computational methods in condensed matter and magnetism.

The role will involve working with Science and Technology Facilities Council to perform and analyse the results of first principles calculations that will feed into atomistic spin dynamics models. You will be expected to be confident with HPC systems, develop code and run first principles and atomistic codes. This work will also be carried out in collaboration with experimental groups in Germany. You will be expected to promote our work at conferences and workshops and contribute to the generation of publications and external funding bids.

You must have a PhD (or about to complete) in theoretical magnetism/condensed matter physics and have expertise in Mathematical Physics. Experience in computational condensed matter and in programming (C/C++, FORTRAN) is essential. The Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, both on projects and as part of a team is also essential.

We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented groups

For non-EU applicants, we are unlikely to be able to offer a certificate of sponsorship for this job (unless you are switching from a UK student visa), so you should only apply if you already have unrestricted permission to work in the UK.
